We have been covering the finer aspects of WordPress 3.0 and not because we love the blogging tool, but because the latest release, i.e. 3.0 (code named: Thelonious) takes the software to a new level.

Like we earlier pointed out, there is a messaging change in the product that clearly states that WordPress is not a blogging tool anymore – its actually an attempt to be a complete CMS platform.

Read our complete guide to WordPress 3.0 to get deep dive into the new features.

For the quickies, here is a snapshot:

  • WordPress and WP MU to be Merged
  • Custom Menus
You can create multiple menus and enable the same in your current theme. By using this feature, you can easily create submenus, build menus from modules and bring them contextually together. Essentially, more control over your menus.
  • ShortURL
Wordpress 3.0 is ‘Twitter friendly’ and enables you to create your own shorturl service.
  • Custom Post Types
  • New default theme ‘Twenty Ten’.
